| TRIBUTE
TO SLIM HARPO & RAFUL NEAL |
Born James Isaac Moore,
Blues icon Slim Harpo made the bulk of his studio recordings
in Crowley Louisianaprobably the most plausible reason
for the deep, swampy sound and skulking rhythms of his hit singles.
With the popular debut single Im A King Bees
compulsive, chicken scratch guitar motif became an elemental
part of the Rolling Stones early sound.
The popular classic singles Baby Scratch My Back
(charted at #1), Slim Harpos claim to fame was his unique
signature musicality; a bittersweet, rollicking sound of soul
piercing harmonica accompanied by melancholic gritty vocals.
He had an innateif not uncanny feel for mixing genres
ranging from country to Rock n Roll and Soul, perfectly
placed to be one of the funkiest, most danceable Blues performers
so far in the musics history. Given Slim Harpos
boundless talent and wide ranging musical influence, it is no
wonder that Kenny Neal, arguably one of the best Blues Guitarists
around today (and one of Harpo biggest fans) would take on some
of his best works in a tribute album fitting for Harpo's legendary
status.
